BreedAtlas exists because "what dog should I get" deserves better than a ten-second quiz and a cute photo.

Choosing a dog is a fifteen-year decision, and most breed content on the internet is either a two-paragraph stub or a breeder brochure. BreedAtlas writes the honest version: the exercise demands, the shedding, the health risks breed members actually face, and the households each breed genuinely fits — including the "this is probably not your breed" notes.

Every profile follows the same structure — temperament, exercise and training, grooming, and health — built on public breed standards and longevity research, written in plain language. We name the hard truths (yes, the husky will howl; yes, the Berner sheds) because the right dog is the one whose reality you can live with.

We are dog lovers and researchers, not breeders or vets. Our profiles are a decision tool, and every page ends by pointing you to the professionals who can confirm the fit.

What makes BreedAtlas different

• Your numbers never leave your browser. Every calculator on BreedAtlas runs entirely on your device. We never see, store, or transmit the figures you enter — there are no accounts and no server-side processing of your inputs.
• Published methodology. Each calculator page explains the exact formula it uses and the assumptions behind it, so you can check our work or reproduce it in a spreadsheet.
• Free, forever, without a paywall. BreedAtlas is supported by advertising. There is no premium tier, no email gate, and no upsell.
